Using a Porcelain Crown to Improve an Unappealing Tooth in Your Smile

Posted .

If one or more of the teeth in your smile has been marred by chips, deep stains or other cosmetic imperfections, it can leave you with an unappealing smile. Many people in a situation like this will consult with George R. Hussey, DDS, FAGD’s dentists to explore their cosmetic dentistry options. One of the most effective solutions is to restore the unappealing tooth with a porcelain crown.

The process starts by one of our dentist examining the tooth and taking some X-rays to assess the overall health of the tooth. They will then numb the area before removing the majority of the enamel layer. This leaves behind a small post called an abutment, which will later serve to anchor your new crown.

At the end of the appointment your dentist will create a detailed impression of the abutment and surrounding teeth. A hard plastic temporary crown is then secured over top of the abutment to protect it. The impression will then be sent to our professional dental lab where your new porcelain crown is custom made

When the crown is ready, we will call you back in for a brief follow up appointment. The temporary crown will be removed and the permanent porcelain crown is cemented in place.

If you have an unappealing tooth in your smile, you should call George R. Hussey, DDS, FAGD’s offices in Arlington, Washington at 360.653.5197 to explore your cosmetic restoration options.
